Blog #7 - Arts and Viewer discretion – discussion response:
“A quick talk and hear
me out here”, in today’s class, an extensively long class discussion occurred,
the idea was about discretion when creating art and whose views matter in the reception of it as well as how/who would
see this ‘art’.
I would say that I was a “MAJOR” contributor to the discussion.
In the way that I liked building in people’s ideas. I found that a lot of what I
was doing was making new arguments although I never got to talk about my own
views on the subject matters.
I liked what Zain said, she talked about it is
always the viewer's responsibility to exercise
discretion when viewing things, the internet is a massive viscus place and the
right mentality is needed to use it, if not a lot of “BAD” things may come up. Essentially,
we are getting more than what we asked
for.
I expanded on that idea with the argument that with the search
bar, comes great responsibility. In the defense of large film companies, the
internet is a true meritocracy, where the user can see, do, watch whatever they
want on demand. Anyone and everyone has the
right to publish anything they want on this public platform.
It then becomes the user’s responsibility to use the search
bar responsibly and look for the things that add value to what they do. We have
a great ability off common sense, we know when something such as ‘suicide’ is
not something we should be super chilled about or even take it into consideration. Possibly
the best way to prevent these issues is to reach our species to forget about
the problem completely.
