Blog #8 – Arts RLS “Why the Renaissance and its Art Were More Controversial Than We Think”

Summary:

The perception of the renaissance is changing. In the period known as the high renaissance, we see the works of Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Negel explained that there is a new controversy of Renaissance art because of not everyone having been brought up through the ideals of the renaissance movement.

Negal sees the high renaissance between the 1400s – 1500s between two ‘calm’ eras. In this time was the invention of the religious art. The search for the religious art would have begun with Negal and the debate of over the proper function of imagery. “religious art as a distraction from the message of the image—a tension between the making of beautiful pictures and the making of pious pictures” (University of Chicago 2015).

The text goes on and on, the jest of it is that because we come from different time eras and different upbringings the high renaissance art becomes controversial as many of the artworks took a tremendous time to complete, this raises suspicions of change in meaning. The two “calm eras” the text leaves it open-ended as to what caused them and their significance.


Knowledge Questions:

1.       To what extent should we control religious art in its content and to its viewers?

2.       How far can a response to the arts very across geographies due to the difference in cultures?

3.       To what extent does time distort the common right?

Blog #11 - Ethics Wrap Up

Dilemma: You work in an office space where you have been in the same role for the past 6 years, you realized you can get the boss fired and take his place, your pay would skyrocket but at the same time, you would not be able to maintain standards and the company will fail. You would get the biggest compensation of $500, 000 but everyone else in the company would have to walk away empty-handed and jobless. What would you do? Blog #13 – Mastermind

When playing the game ‘mastermind’ in class I can make some connections when scaling the ideas up to the scale of magnitude that covers the whole entire world. The first aspect to talk about is about the idea of if the leader was nature the players in the game won’t they be essentially anything with a soul, it's not so much watching scientists struggle to make sense of observations but more so to create the observations for people to see. And the code created by nature that is the observation it dictates, it waits then on people to discover that sight, its nothing really to figure out but it is something we can eventually observe by chance or just pure luck.
