Blog #11 - Ethics Wrap Up

Dilemma: You work in an office space where you have been in the same role for the past 6 years, you realized you can get the boss fired and take his place, your pay would skyrocket but at the same time, you would not be able to maintain standards and the company will fail. You would get the biggest compensation of $500, 000 but everyone else in the company would have to walk away empty-handed and jobless. What would you do? Devine Command Theory: this is a concept where you do what would be wanted by a supreme power that is tied to religion, faith, and beliefs. We understand that in this case, the company would be out of business, but that company may be forcing people into acts they do not believe in and that we can consider that there is the reason for the current boss to be thrown out. Unilateralism: the idea that wants the greatest amount of good for the most amount of people. Obviously, if you do become the boss and everyone loses their jobs does not sound lik...

Blog #10 - The Morality Play

When filling out the morality play questionnaire I took an initial rule, that I would not involve myself in situations I don’t need to be in. I would generally help where I could but, I would not deviate “out of my way” to help someone who I don’t know. The parts I found particularly difficult was where it is suggesting wasting one life to save several others, my proposition Is that I do not give any bias to anyone. I am not going to be the one to decide who gets to live and who gets to die. In that situation, I often diverted to leaving things the way they are and not interfering at all. I found the situation where I am helping someone I know as in a close friend or relative to be easy to answer always with a definitive YES. I see it has to do with love for that person, unconditionally I would want to do everything in my power completely un-dependent on other opinions. Form this exercise I learned that ethical decisions don’t have a right or wrong, they are often never reall...

Blog #9 - RLS: How to kill a mockingbird

In what ways does this engage with Reason and emotion as ways of knowing? The reason as a way of knowing engages with the reader when the text often includes elements of context throughout the text. The idea is so that the constant use of factual historical evidence “same language that concerned the school system in 1984” appeals to our logic that the text is credible and knowledgeable in the subject matter. As seen tied in with the United States history “we could illustrate in the history of the U.S. censorship with countless other books” Therefore, our reason leads us to believe that the article is true. Emotion is directly engaged with the reader when the text uses harsh terminology like “yanked from an eighth-grade reading list”. This appeals to emotions as the idea of provoking someone as young as an eighth-grader something as innocent as a book creates an immediate scenic of prejudice against the school district for doing such.  What knowledge claims seem to...

Blog #8 – Arts RLS “Why the Renaissance and its Art Were More Controversial Than We Think”

Link to the RLS: http://bigthink.com/Picture-This/why-the-renaissance-and-its-art-were-more-controversial-than-we-think Summary: The perception of the renaissance is changing. In the period known as the high renaissance, we see the works of Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Negel explained that there is a new controversy of Renaissance art because of not everyone having been brought up through the ideals of the renaissance movement. Negal sees the high renaissance between the 1400s – 1500s between two ‘calm’ eras. In this time was the invention of the religious art. The search for the religious art would have begun with Negal and the debate of over the proper function of imagery. “ religious art as a distraction from the message of the image—a tension between the making of beautiful pictures and the making of pious pictures ” (University of Chicago 2015). The text goes on and on, the jest of it is that because we come from different time eras and differe...

Blog #7 - Arts and Viewer discretion – discussion response:

“A quick talk and hear me out here”, in today’s class, an extensively long class discussion occurred, the idea was about discretion when creating art and whose views matter in the reception of it as well as how/who would see this ‘art’. I would say that I was a “MAJOR” contributor to the discussion. In the way that I liked building in people’s ideas. I found that a lot of what I was doing was making new arguments although I never got to talk about my own views on the subject matters. I liked what Zain said, she talked about it is always the viewer's responsibility to exercise discretion when viewing things, the internet is a massive viscus place and the right mentality is needed to use it, if not a lot of “BAD” things may come up. Essentially, we are getting more than what we asked for. I expanded on that idea with the argument that with the search bar, comes great responsibility. In the defense of large film companies, the internet is a true meritocracy, where th...

Blog #6 - CSR IN THE MEDIA – Control what is said ‘13 reasons why’

Netflix as a media sharing platform has a Corporate Social Responsibility when in respect to their own actions when making their own content. It Is universally understood that ‘ Suicide ’ is a negative idea/view that is not encouraged in fact it is warned against. Television shows aimed towards adolescence is an area that requires a lot of discretion , to understand the ‘extent that adolescence will react with the show’. The text mentions “teens are particularly sensitive and exposed to quick and powerful changes in perspective to the world”. They would be quick to form opinions and act on them. It is said a trait that makes kids better than adults is that they don’t over analyze things, they would action on it, and so if it does not work out, they lean and don’t do it again. When an artist or writer in this circumstance should consider the extent his/her inquiry should take, they are not supposed to do too far and to be relevant not stay too safe, this is a really t...

Blog #5 - Look at emotions article - responce

Emotion. To what extent can we trust what is true? To elaborate on that, our emotions have a bad habit to recognize situations, judge and create feelings in an instant. Leading us to believe things we think are the correct but are far from. The article uses a great example where ‘Lisa’ goes on a date with a coworker, she agrees because of the stress of work. She thinks she likes him because she is a data with him when she does not even know him that well. The proposition forms the text describes a situation where we can mistake an infection for “love”. That sensation like anger, anxiety, hunger or illness is not as distinct that I might first assume, how we take that information and misinterpret them with the situation to creates a file of memory that we refer back to alone. In my own interpretation, I don’t think she is in love with the man. I don’t think that he is significant in any way to her. She is not in love with him, in fact, she is in love with what he...
